Thus far: new jacuzzi tub, bathrm painted, laundry rm painted/flooring, most upper cabinets in kitchen. Need sink somewhere...& counters.

Building products manufacturer collapses as construction sector struggles

The collapse of a bathroom products manufacturer in Victoria has highlighted just how difficult the current economic environment is for construction providers, with one expert saying businesses will now have to prepare and learn how to deal with more subdued activity than they are used to.

The warning comes despite new official statistics showing a slight rise in housing starts recorded during the March quarter – experts say the year-on-year results paint a different picture.

Ryluc Industries, which manufactures bathroom furnishings including sinks, cabinets, laundry cabinets and other furniture, has entered voluntary liquidation.

Grant Thornton is acting as liquidator, but representatives were not available for comment before publication this morning.

Attempts to contact Ryluc were unsuccessful. It is not clear whether the business is still trading.

The collapse came on the same day that new figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed housing starts rose by a seasonally adjusted 3.1% in the March quarter – a result widely expected by economists.

Laundry room cabinets are done! Woop! | Go, haus, go!

Finally, FINALLY the cabinets in the laundry room are done. They look amazing. This is a terrible camera photo I took last night, but I couldn’t wait to share the finished product with you all.

Here’s a quick look at my process, which took about two weeks to complete due to all the drying time required.

Wipe down cabinets with a damp rag to remove any dust and dirt. Sand cabinets (I used a medium grit sanding sponge) until shine is removed Wipe down cabinets again. Use tack cloth to remove any leftover, invisible dirt or sanding dust (This step is KEY to a smooth finish – thanks to Kate for the tip!)....

Quite possibly the least-addressed interior (but most in need of careful organization), laundry rooms have to meet many needs in often-small, secondary and sometimes-awkward areas of a home.

Laundry activities can, by necessity, be relegated to thin hallways, tiny landings or the extra square footage along one side of an attached (or detached) garage.

Meanwhile, washers and dryers (except some stackable ones) hardly lend themselves to space-saving strategies and compounding the problem.

Valcucine tries to approach the problem holistically, with custom ironing boards, fitted cupboards, integrated drawers, shelves and sliding panels that work with and around necessary appliances (including optional mobile laundry baskets located conveniently below each machine).
