1000th shoe box target
A CHARITY minded Goole councillor and her husband are hoping to send off the 1,000th shoe box of goodies to members of the British Armed forces serving out in Afghanistan within the next few weeks.
And they are asking for help with donations of items for a tombola they are to stage at the end of the month as the latest fundraiser towards their target.
Coun Shirley Marshall and her husband Frank, started their shoebox appeal two years ago.
“Thanks to generous donations we have filled and sent out 869 boxes so far.
“We are really hoping to reach our 1000th and so we are holding a tombola and French jewellery sale outside Goole Market on Saturday June 25 - Armed Forces Day - to raise funds to fill more boxes.” said Coun Marshall.
Items put in the boxes include socks, soap, sweets, teabags, coffee sticks and biscuits, with each box’s contents being to the value of £10.
“Tesco has donated 11 packs of socks and members of the public have been very generous. One man came up to Frank recently and gave him £10 towards the project and another lady won £10 on the lottery and gave us £5 of it.

Newlyweds on a Budget: Scrap Book Paper and Shoe Boxes
I had planned to do the same chevron pattern she used because I loved it so much-but with my limited funds I couldn't afford to get all the colors I needed (I'm still building up my paint stores) not to mention I was having a hard time finding the colors I wanted. But I still loved the idea and already knew where I wanted to put it-so I shelved the project for a couple weeks and stewed it over. I think it turned out really well and it looks just how I had imagined it-you can see the beautiful Orchid my MIL gave me last week in one of the pots I found when I was falling in love with Thrift Stores . And don't mind my empty fruit bowl-I need to go grocery shopping. I hunted for a good 10 minutes to find something in my fridge to put in it...
